The drums for ‘What It Is’ and "Who Gives A Funk" were recorded right at the end of a recording session in Phoenix, Arizona. When the transfer in Phoenix occurred between the original 8-track reel to reel tapes and the akai ADAM, the track cut off prematurely at about 50 seconds, so I looped it 3 times. The seam in the drum track where the loop starts over seemed too obvious, so I recorded noises over the loop seam to cover it up. Note: This drum track is the same drum track used on track #1 "What It Is". Michael Finley plays some great slap bass on this track; it is one of my favorites.
I originally had Jim Finley play over the raw drum track; then I had Michael play over it too without listening to what Jim did as an experiment; one track with Michael picking harmonics; and the with Michael other soloing over it slapping on bass. But it was all too much; so i made it into two separate tracks to satisfy my option anxiety.

You’d expect an album titled “Velociraptor” to be heavy and this doesn’t disappoint, as it’s jam-packed with serrated noise & feedback. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 22, 2023
